NCHS Wins Parish Mock Trial Contest

On Tuesday night, March 10, North Central High School scored its first win over OCHS in the St. Landry Parish Mock Trial contest. On Thursday, March 12, at 7 p.m., NCHS scored its second win, defeating OHS in the courtroom of Judge Kenneth Boagni, Jr. In the case of Pat Boudreaux vs. Tiger Drilling Co., attorneys Chanci Shaw, Jeanine Miller, and Jeanette Fontenot-on behalf of plaintiff Pat Boudreaux (Travis Bush)-did a superb job. Witnesses on behalf of the plaintiff were Dr. Terry Wilcox (Marion Durand) and Toni Lyons (Kendra Doucet). All team members were well prepared, confident, and articulate in presenting their case.

On Tuesday night, March 17, NCHS defeated Eunice High in the finals, and will go to Baton Rouge on March 28 to represent St. Landry Parish in the state competition. The NCHS team, having only four days to prepare, switched from plaintiff to defense, memorizing their parts. The team was prepared for competition by attorneys Alonzo and Vanessa Harris of the firm Harris & Harris and team coaches Rose Sam (counselor) and Huey Hawkins (social studies teacher) at NCHS. The Mock Trial contest is under the direction of Mr. Donald Pitre, supervisor of English and social studies and Attorney Peter Caviness of the St. Landry Parish Bar Association.
